Welcome to the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association Website.

The Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association (IFPCA) has over 60 years of experience training and serving Fire and Police Commissioners in the State of Illinois. We constantly review and update our Training Modules to reflect the changes of the laws and circumstances that we are required to abide by as commissioners. We have a dedicated staff of people to train and assist you.

If your community is currently a member of our association, we thank you, and look forward to serving you. If your community has let its membership lapse, we would be happy to discuss what it is we offer not only to your commissioners, but also to your community. If you are a new community that has just surpassed a population of 5,000 or more, you are required by Illinois State statute to have a Board of Fire and/or Police Commissioners. We are here to serve you by providing training and legal assistance to our members. Please contact us and consider how a membership can assist with this transition.

The IFPCA hosts two seminars per year. The spring seminar is held in the southern part of the state, and the fall seminar in the northern part of the state. The seminars are broken down into individual training modules related to the duties commissioners will regularly be expected to perform. Commissioners will also have the opportunity to be briefed on legal reviews of current case laws and changes in the Illinois and Federal statutes. These reviews will be provided by the association attorney and are critical to the job you will do as commissioners. This legal advice is available to your commission as part of your yearly membership.

We are facing some challenging times as commissioners and the IFPCA is here to help you every step of the way. Your training and updates to legal reviews are even more crucial for you and your Board's success.
